October 2016 NCPIEs 31st Annual TalkAboutYourMedicines Month
This year, Talk About Your Medicines Month casts a spotlight on a signficant and growing medication safe use issue POLYPHARMACY, the use of 5 or more medications by the same person at the same time putting patients at increased risk for drug interactions and side effects.
This years TAYM program will include educational resources and social media messages focused on addressing, preventing and managing polypharmacy. These materials can be used to develop a Talk About Your Medicines Month program in your community addressing POLYPHARMACY. Click here
Talk Before You Take
Talk Before You Take is a new national awareness campaign to encourage and improve communications between healthcare providers (HCPs) and patients about the benefits and potential risks of prescription medicines.
Safe Use of Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen is found in more than 600 different medicines both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers, fever reducers, and sleep aids as well as cough, cold, and allergy medicines. Acetaminophen is safe and effective when it is used according to the label directions, but taking too much acetaminophen can be harmful. The Acetaminophen Safe Use College Resource Guide . the Acetaminophen Safe Use Program for Teen Influencers . and the Acetaminophen Safe Use for Seniors are newly developed public awareness programs that integrate tailored messaging, free downloads and useful links to external resources on the safe use of acetaminophen-containing products (OTC and Rx). These educational materials can be used either online or in your community in order to better understand how to use acetaminophen containing products properly and avoid misuse.
Incorporated in October 1982, the NCPIE coalition, through the strength and commitment of its diverse membership, continues to play a leadership role in stimulating and improving communication of information on safe and appropriate medicine use to consumers and healthcare professionals. NCPIE members includes close to 100 organizations representing consumers and patients, healthcare providers, voluntary health agencies, government agencies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
