The Impact of Mobile Technology on our Children
Albany, NY (October 10, 2017) – Americans spend a startling amount of time on our mobile devices. But how does mobile device use affect k-12 students? This is explored in a recently published special section of Child Development, edited by Zheng Yan, Educational Counseling Psychology, and Örebro University’s Lennart Hardell. The section shows how particularly diverse the use of mobile technology is among children and adolescents, and points to great complexity in the effects of that usage. Yan will be teaching a graduate course–EPSY 714 Psychology of Computers–on the topic in spring 2018.
Study on Exercise Addiction Among Female College Students
Albany, NY (October 2, 2017) – Doctoral student Melissa Ertl and five fellow graduate students along with assistant professor Jessica Martin, all from Counseling Psychology, set out to examine why exercise addiction was affecting so many on college campuses. Their article, Running on Empty: High Self-esteem as a Risk Factor for Exercise Addiction, was published in July. The research team hopes that the information they gathered will benefit clinicians when treating exercise addiction.
